Octavia achieves SHIFT Gold sustainability accreditation
Octavia has achieved ‘Gold’ accreditation in our recent SHIFT (Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow) assessment, a sustainability standard specifically for the housing sector, in recognition of our commitment to sustainability.
Octavia achieved SHIFT Gold with a score of 57.04, ranking us 10th out of the 40 most recent UK housing providers to be assessed.
The SHIFT report provides an independent assessment of Octavia’s sustainability performance from 1 April 2020 - March 31 2021, and spans 21 environmental criteria including CO2 emissions, energy and resource use, transport and travel, resident engagement, climate risk, biodiversity and responsible sourcing, to provide a comprehensive overview of Octavia’s environmental footprint.
Key highlights from the SHIFT report show:
- Octavia have scored 15 out of 15 for our Sustainability Strategy, which includes a range of ambitious and smart targets, aimed at making homes warmer and reducing our environmental footprint.
- Over 69% of our homes are rated EPC C or above, with over 98% rated EPC D or above. Given the older age and location of our stock, which are difficult to retrofit, this is a strong score. We retrofitted 141 homes in the last year with external wall insulation (EWI) and new windows.
- Low carbon emissions from our head office due to the 20kWp solar array which provides green energy. Heat is provided from a heat pump system installed on our roof.
- 59% of materials used for maintenance are responsibly resourced. We scored 7th out of the 40 most recent UK housing providers to be assessed.
